What To Do If You Fail the PMP Exam

What To Do If You Fail the PMP Exam

Although PMI has never openly offered fail statistics, people *DO* fail the PMP certification. This is most likely more common than publicized and should not cause any embarrassment.

The PMP certification exam is a very hard exam. If you ask most people who passed the PMP exam on their first attempt, I am sure that you will hear that they were extremely relieved and that they were not entirely certain that they would pass.

For those that did not pass the PMP, the MOST IMPORTANT thing that you can do is to take action and devise a plan for passing the exam.

If you have failed the exam, then please consider the following action plan very carefully:

No Action Items
1. Review your certification testing results.

Identify which PMP areas were marked with the lowest proficiency results. You should focus on these areas before retaking the exam. If you disagree with your PMP exam results, you may challenge your results with PMI. Please note that this rarely happens.
2. Review your guarantees.

Most training programs and products offer a guarantee that you will pass. Generally, this guarantee is in the form of additional services or money returned. Contact them and execute your guarantee to start your exam preparation. You are most interested in additional services such as: additional coaching, training, access to training materials, etc.
3. Register to retake the PMP certification exam.

Do not wait . Make the most of the knowledge that you have and do not let it slip over time. Determine how long you need to study and schedule your exam appointment online or by telephone. You may retake the exam up to two times within your eligibility period by submitting a completed re-examination form and paying the appropriate re-examination fee.
4. Purchase an online exam simulator.

You need to train your brain to think like PMI in timed testing scenarios. The online simulator should provide timed quizzes and mock exams as well as progress gauges to determine whether you have mastered the material sufficiently to pass.
5. Create a study plan and *COMMIT* to it.

6. Learn the PMP Test Taking Tips and Techniques

Even though you may know the PMP material well, there are a set of best practices for taking the PMP certification exam. By learning these tips and techniques, you'll be able to perform at your best by using time-proven advice that will help optimize your performance on the PMP Certification exam.
7. Get a good night's sleep before the day of the exam.

Tired, sleepy brains rarely make the best decisions. Get rest and be sharp for the exam.
